Vivid boysenberry, plum reduction and açaí fruit drives along with clarity and focus thanks to a racy graphite spine. Mouthwatering apple wood and solid cast iron accents help lengthen the finish as the fruit keeps pace. It’s hard to be any more St.-Julien than this. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. Best from 2028 through 2042.

There are few regions in the world with stricter regulations in regards to wine production and grape varietals than those found in Bordeaux, France. Here, in the home of the world's finest wines, the type and quality of grapes used is of utmost importance, and the legendary wineries which work on the banks of the Gironde river have mastered the careful art of juice blending to find the perfect balance for their produce. Whilst there are six 'official' Bordeaux grapes, the two key varietals for almost every fine Bordeaux wine are Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, and with good reason. Whilst Cabernet Sauvignon grapes are renowned for their acidity and astringency, strong fruit and spice flavors and full body, Merlot grapes are notably rounded, soft, fleshy and lighter on tannin. The combination of these two varietals, along with a small percentage of (commonly) Petit Verdot or Cabernet Franc, is the perfect balancing act â€“ the two grape varietals cancel out each others weaker points, and accentuate all that is good about the other.

Ripe but fresh blackberries, mulberries, hibiscus and dark currants with a touch of fine spices and violet. Very young, but the high quality of the wine is fathomable. Fleshy, juicy and flavorful, with polished tannins on the medium-to full-bodied palate. Long and deep finish. Bottled recently in July, just a month ago. 50% cabernet sauvignon, 35% merlot, 10% petit verdot and 5% cabernet franc. Drink from 2028. From a vertical tasting at the winery.

The 2023 Gloria is a total delight. Medium in body and vibrant, with terrific energy, the 2023 is seriously impressive. It is easily one of the sleepers of this vintage. Blood orange, crushed flowers and cinnamon weave through a core of red-toned fruit. There's a fair amount of Merlot in the blend, which adds to the wine's open-knit character. What a total delight.

Coming from a blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 10% Petit Verdot, and 5% Cabernet Franc aged in 38% new barrels (the balance in second- and third-fill), the 2023 Château Gloria is a classic Saint-Julien with real purity and finesse. Ripe blue fruits, cherries, leafy tobacco, and spicy wood notes all shine on the nose, and it's medium-bodied on the palate, with a pure, layered, elegant mouthfeel, soft, polished tannins, and considerable charm and accessibility. Drink this lovely Saint-Julien over the coming 15-20 years. Tasted multiple times with consistent notes. Drink 2026-2045.

Winery Notes

Dense ruby/purple in color, it has sweet, juicy, blackcurrant and black cherry fruit, no real evidence of any oak, but a fleshy, open-knit, meaty mouth feel. Excellent purity, low acidity and ripe tannin all characterize this beautiful wine, which should drink well for 12-15 years. Another major sleeper of the vintage.
