There are few regions in the world with stricter regulations in regards to wine production and grape varietals than those found in Bordeaux, France. Here, in the home of the world's finest wines, the type and quality of grapes used is of utmost importance, and the legendary wineries which work on the banks of the Gironde river have mastered the careful art of juice blending to find the perfect balance for their produce. Clear dark pepper spice, the Petit Verdot is playing an oversized role. If you just sit with it for a moment and allow the spice to billow over your palate you then get a kick back of mint, concentrated liquorice and a wash of just-juicy-enough black fruit. Good hold and grip, impressive overall and one that is just about ready to drink now. The austerity keeps things overall subdued, but has charm and character. A yield of 35l/ha. 50% new oak. Drinking Window 2021 - 2038.

The 2011 La Lagune had a difficult task in following up the 2010, but it does its best with more tightly wound red fruit than black. There is just a slight tinny scent that soon dissipates and it offers more attractive scents of orange rind and violet with time. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, good weight in the mouth, well balanced with dusky black fruit laced with Earl Grey and a pinch of white pepper. This finishes with grace and elegance. Bon vin. Tasted at the La Lagune vertical at the château.
