There are few regions in the world with stricter regulations in regards to wine production and grape varietals than those found in Bordeaux, France. Here, in the home of the world's finest wines, the type and quality of grapes used is of utmost importance, and the legendary wineries which work on the banks of the Gironde river have mastered the careful art of juice blending to find the perfect balance for their produce. Whilst there are six 'official' Bordeaux grapes, the two key varietals for almost every fine Bordeaux wine are Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, and with good reason. Whilst Cabernet Sauvignon grapes are renowned for their acidity and astringency, strong fruit and spice flavors and full body, Merlot grapes are notably rounded, soft, fleshy and lighter on tannin. A blast of dark cherry, plum, espresso, chocolate and licorice races across the palate. This potent Graves packs a tremendous punch. It’s a fine effort form Maxime Tach.

Black cherries, blueberries, leafy tobacco, and smoky, earthy nuances all shine in the 2022 Château Les Clauzots, a medium to full-bodied Graves with a plump, round texture on the palate. It offers a sexy, seductive, absolutely delicious style that's ready to go, yet I see no reason it shouldn't keep for a decade. Drink 2025-2035.

Winery Notes

The Château les Clauzots red is a wine that truly represents the Graves terroir. It is traditionally vinified in stainless steel vats, with a cold pre-fermentation maceration and a slow alcoholic fermentation. The wine is then aged for 18 months with wood contact on fine lees. This wine shows a vibrant intensity and freshness of fruits, enhanced by the careful aging which reveals elegant and fine wooden notes. The Cabernet Sauvignon, which is the dominant grape variety, brings freshness to the wine and also guarantees great tannic structure and excellent aging potential. The Merlot adds roundness and smoothness to complete the balance, while the small percentage of Petit Verdot expands the wine with its strength, freshness, and spicy aromas. Overall, the Château les Clauzots red is a well-balanced and harmonious wine that offers a wide range of flavors and aromas, with a remarkable longevity.
