Long-term Pre-arrival Items
Long Term Pre-arrival Definition: Ordering wine directly through us from our supplier partners in Europe in advance of the item’s physical arrival in the US.
Long Term Pre-arrival sales ensure you’re getting the best possible price and that you have also secured the product before it hits the normal retail supply chain. The lead time for Pre-arrival goods is generally 4–8 months, sometimes longer based on supply chain and the logistics of transporting goods overseas. The expectation, from our team, is to communicate to the customer the location of their purchase every step of the way.
This product is offered as a full case purchase option, minimum order quantities may be applicable. When available, multiple case options will be presented. If you are purchasing a Pre-Arrival item you must order a solid case.
Rapid Ship
Items listed as "rapid ship" are in stock and available for immediate pickup or shipment. Those that do not have the "rapid ship" icon are housed with our supplier and must be transferred to our warehouse before they can be picked up or shipped. This requires 4-6 business days but usually occurs sooner. Some products will list both options of availability as there will be a certain number in stock, with the option to order additional bottles to be transferred from the supplier.

This was a rainy vintage but not so cold. The rains came late in the season, so earlier-ripening terroirs did well. Harvest at Montrose was from 16 September to 1 October. The 1999 Montrose is made from 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Petit Verdot. Deep garnet-brick in color, it needs a little swirling to bring out notes of damp soil, wet slate, anise, and dried sage, giving way to a core of plum pudding, fruitcake, and sweaty leather with a waft of tobacco. The medium-bodied palate delivers a good mouthful of expressive black fruits with firm, chewy tannins and plenty of freshness, finishing long and earthy.
There are few regions in the world with stricter regulations in regards to wine production and grape varietals than those found in Bordeaux, France. Here, in the home of the world's finest wines, the type and quality of grapes used is of utmost importance, and the legendary wineries which work on the banks of the Gironde river have mastered the careful art of juice blending to find the perfect balance for their produce. Whilst there are six 'official' Bordeaux grapes, the two key varietals for almost every fine Bordeaux wine are Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, and with good reason. Tasted at the château, the 1999 Montrose is a blend of 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot picked between 16 September and 1 October. It has an attractive bouquet with black fruit, iodine, tar and sandalwood: fresh and vibrant with commendable focus. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin, masculine as usual for Montrose with a fine grip in the mouth. There is backbone and structure to this Montrose, counterpoised with a keen line of acidity and lovely cedar and pencil box notes towards the almost Pauillac-like finish. Whilst not the most exciting Montrose on the block, the 1999 will satiate those who like classic Saint Estèphe that is conservative, yet would complement whatever is at the dinner table. The 1999 Montrose is a vintage that I have tasted several times over the years. To be frank, there is not much between the Grand Vin and Deuxième Vin at 20 years, with similar blackberry and graphite aromas on the nose.
The medium-bodied palate delivers supple black fruit and a fine line of acidity, but clearly not the complexity of more recent vintages. It still has that Pauillac-like finish, but what is missing is a sense of excitement and personality. Tasted from an ex-château bottle at the estate.
