Long-term Pre-arrival Items
Long Term Pre-arrival Definition: Ordering wine directly through us from our supplier partners in Europe in advance of the item’s physical arrival in the US.
Long Term Pre-arrival sales ensure you’re getting the best possible price and that you have also secured the product before it hits the normal retail supply chain. The lead time for Pre-arrival goods is generally 4–8 months, sometimes longer based on supply chain and the logistics of transporting goods overseas. The expectation, from our team, is to communicate to the customer the location of their purchase every step of the way.
This product is offered as a full case purchase option, minimum order quantities may be applicable. When available, multiple case options will be presented. If you are purchasing a Pre-Arrival item you must order a solid case.
Rapid Ship
Items listed as "rapid ship" are in stock and available for immediate pickup or shipment. Those that do not have the "rapid ship" icon are housed with our supplier and must be transferred to our warehouse before they can be picked up or shipped. This requires 4-6 business days but usually occurs sooner. Some products will list both options of availability as there will be a certain number in stock, with the option to order additional bottles to be transferred from the supplier.

Anther elegant wine from this estate is the 1996 Rauzan-Ségla, based on a 60/40 split of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Its medium ruby color is followed by a complex bouquet of cedar spice, menthol, saddle leather, and earth, and it has sweet, mature fruit. Nicely balanced on the palate, with a resolved, elegant texture, it’s certainly drinking at point today yet will keep nicely going forward.
There are few regions in the world with stricter regulations in regards to wine production and grape varietals than those found in Bordeaux, France. Here, in the home of the world's finest wines, the type and quality of grapes used is of utmost importance, and the legendary wineries which work on the banks of the Gironde river have mastered the careful art of juice blending to find the perfect balance for their produce. Whilst there are six 'official' Bordeaux grapes, the two key varietals for almost every fine Bordeaux wine are Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, and with good reason. The Margaux appellation of France's legendary Bordeaux wine region is one of the world's most famous and highly respected viticultural areas. For centuries, Margaux has been deeply associated with extremely fine wines of the highest quality, made using traditional and time-honored techniques in order to extract the very best, most refined and elegant flavors and aromas from the Bordeaux varietal grapes which grow there. Margaux wines are almost always blended, using two or three key Bordeaux grapes, commonly Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc (amongst others). An extremely good Right Bank vintage, but it seems it was a good year for Rauzan-Segla too - I recently tasted a horizontal of St-Emilion 1998s and this wine stands up to them in quality terms. It has a lovely rich, warm character, full of generosity, spice, freshness and bristling, brambly black fruits. There are some clear tertiary notes of truffle and undergrowth too, and it has an utterly delicious saline finish.

The 1996 Rauzan-Ségla is a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot. Medium to deep brick colored, the nose is fully mature with notes of old leather, dried herbs, unsmoked cigars and cedar chest plus a waft of menthol and dried figs. Medium-bodied, firm and chewy with some good dried berries and exotic spice flavors left to give on the mid-palate, it finishes just a little puckering and rustic. It makes for a nice glass now, for those that like wines on the mature side, but needs drinking-up within the next 5-6 years.

The 1996 Rauzan-Ségla is a vintage that has not matured as well as I hoped. It offers a slightly smudged bouquet with undergrowth infused black fruit laced with tar, this particular bottle a little more citric than others that I have encountered over the years. The palate is better, as I have found before, with cedar and white pepper infused black fruit, and refreshingly saline. Yet, it feels a little surly towards the finish, the tannins a little dry. I cannot see much upswing in this Rauzan-Ségla after 22 years. Not bad, but surpassed by subsequent vintages. Tasted at the Vinous 1996 Bordeaux tasting at Berry Brothers & Rudd.
