There are few regions in the world with stricter regulations in regards to wine production and grape varietals than those found in Bordeaux, France. The 2022 Vray Croix de Gay is soft, open-knit and gracious. I found it much more expressive en primeur. Ripe dark cherry, mocha, spice, new leather and floral overtones build nicely. It will be interesting if the 2022 shows more of that stylish charm and depth I saw in the barrel samples with more time in bottle.

A blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, the 2022 Vray Croix de Gay is the first vintage produced from start to finish by Vincent Millet and his team from Calon Ségur. Exhibiting aromas of sweet berries, orange zest, violets and rose petals, it's medium to full-bodied, fleshy and velvety, with lively acids and a saline finish. It's derived from a parcel opposite Le Gay and Trotonoy. (91-93)
