Clos Mogador Gratallops Manyetes Vi de Vila 2023 750ml

The 2023 Manyetes is their Cariñena from the lieu-dit in Gratallops that names the wine. Thirty-five percent of the wine fermented in a semi-carbonic maceration, was pressed and finished fermenting with the skins, and it matured in demi-muid for eight months—there was not enough wine to fill the 2,000-liter oak vat (which they couldn't do again until 2025)—and a 1,200-liter oak egg for a further 12 months because of the very low yields. It has a medium- to full-bodied palate with abundant fine-grained tannins. It has concentration and clout, some rusticity and ripeness, with 14.5% alcohol. In general, despite being harvested early, the 2023s have higher alcohol than the wines from 2022 and 2024, but the tannins are finer than the 2022s, when the vines were blocked, and not as refined as the 2024s. Perhaps it's a little like 2020, which was a ripe year. Just 1,800 bottles were produced, one-third of the normal production. In 2024, they installed irrigation because the vines were about to die...

The final result is staggering - a harmonious blend of these noble grapes is completely at one with the terroir and gives us a wine with minerality, femininity, subtlety and complexity which warms our hearts. Manyetes is, quite simply, the essence of Priorat transformed into wine.
