Harvested in October, the 2013 Amour de Deutz—disgorged in September 2022 with a dosage of seven grams per liter—has evolved beautifully with additional post-disgorgement maturation. Based heavily on the Côte des Blancs fruit, it offers a profound bouquet of candied lemon, peach, pear, roasted pineapple and gooseberry layered with roasted cacao bean and smoky accents that underscore its subtly reductive signature. These olfactory impressions transition seamlessly onto the medium- to full-bodied palate, which is unusually generous in context of the vintage: fleshy, multidimensional and with a sweet fruit core enlivened with pinpoint mousse. This Blanc de Blancs culminates in a lingering, toasty finish, rendering it irresistibly approachable even at this early stage.
A rich Champagne, with a lush, almost viscous creaminess, reined in nicely by vivid, mouthwatering acidity -- a finely knit frame for flavors of white peach puree, passion fruit, toasted brioche and accents of elderflower, fleur de sel and candied grapefruit peel. Long, lasting finish. Drink now through 2035. 5,000 cases made, 250 cases imported.
The 2013 Brut Blanc de Blancs Millésimé Amour de Deutz shows how compelling Chardonnay is in the 2013 vintage. Rich and creamy, with striking tropical nuances, the 2013 is both exotic and vibrant. Tangerine peel, lemon confit, marzipan, jasmine and passion fruit are some of the many notes that develop with some coaxing. Bracing graphite-tinged mineral notes open with some time in the glass. The 2013 Amour de Deutz is one of the best in recent memory. I loved it.
Certainly the highlight in this tasting from Deutz, I absolutely love the nose of the 2013 Champagne Amour De Deutz Millésime Brut. It sports a vibrant pale yellow color and is laced with layered aromas of pastry cream, candied grapefruit, frangipane, peach rings, and shortbread. Elegant and detailed, the palate opens to a refined mousse that allows the wine itself to shine through, with a focused lift on the finish. It is a wonderfully expressive and graceful wine to drink now through 2040.
Elegant and refreshing nose, with a chalky layer to the lemony citrus and fine, creamy pastry aromas. Fresh delivery of creamy mousse, followed by a nice grip of fruit and autolysis. Long and subtle, with a bright, almost zesty finish. Drink now or hold.
Light minerality in this Champagne gives it structure and tension. At the same time, it has softness alongside the fine, elegant fruitiness. Despite its 10 years in age, the wine is still fresh, just hinting at maturity. Drink now.
Inviting aromas of honey and citrus, while the plate is laced with a refreshing acidity and apple. (Silver) - DWWA 2024
