The 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Saint-Jacques ler Cru has a generous bouquet of raspberry, briary, wild strawberry, undergrowth and blood orange scents, all very complex
and beautifully defined. The palate is medium-bodier, with fine depth, perhaps the most structured of the five Clos Saint-lacques, and quite serious, with a long tail on the finish. Magnificent. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting.

There are only five producers to choose from inside the Clos St-Jacques, but they all make impressive, if very different wines. Bruno Clair's 2017 is comparatively forward and appealing from barrel, with stylish use of 60% new wood, plenty of perfume, bright strawberry and plum fruit and some underlying tannins.
