Long-term Pre-arrival Items
Long Term Pre-arrival Definition: Ordering wine directly through us from our supplier partners in Europe in advance of the item’s physical arrival in the US.
Long Term Pre-arrival sales ensure you’re getting the best possible price and that you have also secured the product before it hits the normal retail supply chain. The lead time for Pre-arrival goods is generally 4–8 months, sometimes longer based on supply chain and the logistics of transporting goods overseas. The expectation, from our team, is to communicate to the customer the location of their purchase every step of the way.
This product is offered as a full case purchase option, minimum order quantities may be applicable. When available, multiple case options will be presented. If you are purchasing a Pre-Arrival item you must order a solid case.
Rapid Ship
Items listed as "rapid ship" are in stock and available for immediate pickup or shipment. Those that do not have the "rapid ship" icon are housed with our supplier and must be transferred to our warehouse before they can be picked up or shipped. This requires 4-6 business days but usually occurs sooner. Some products will list both options of availability as there will be a certain number in stock, with the option to order additional bottles to be transferred from the supplier.

94-96 Sumptuous aromas of violets, blackberries, and bilberries explode from the medium to dark ruby-colored 2001 Musigny. A wine of amazing purity and elegance, it reverberates on the palate revealing broad layers of floral dark fruit flavors. Lush yet superbly delineated, this medium-bodied effort is expressive, complex, and dignified. Its prolonged, succulent finish exhibits waves of raspberry fruit and loads of ripe, supple tannin. One of the stars of the vintage, it will be at its peak of maturity between 2006 and 2015.

I have tasted this many times since I originally reviewed it and the '01 Musigny has displayed quite a bit of bottle variation with some examples being fantastic and others being almost difficult to like. There is some secondary development now evident on the very spicy nose that also displays notes of sandalwood, soy, dried flowers and dried herbs on the mostly red berry fruit nose. There is fine detail and ample minerality present on the intense, powerful and focused medium-bodied flavors that exhibit impeccably good balance on the explosively long finish. For my taste this is getting close to its peak and there does not appear to be much, if any, upside development potential remaining. On the less impressive side, some bottles are drying out or have displayed lactic and/or cheese-like, menthol and rubber-like aromas that I have also found on a bottle of the Les Amoureuses (see herein).

Good full red. Roasted red fruits, dark cherry and truffle on the nose. Boasts a rather wild, concentrated core of red fruits, spices and truffle, along with a faint vegetal element. Finishes with a serious dusting of tannins and building length. Winemaker François Millet described 2001 as "a rebel vintage, but a rebel for a good cause. It wasn't well considered at the beginning but is better now." It was a cool, red-fruit style of year, he added. "The energy of the wine was made in the early springtime, as in 2011 and 2007, but the summer was lousy" and the estate eliminated 50% of the fruit in a green harvest. Still, Millet prefers 2001 to 2002 "because 2002 is more politically correct."
