The 2022 Montlouis-sur-Loire Clos de Mosny Monopole is a clay-flint-based parcel, and you can see that in its focus and line. There’s flinty, smoky, salty reduction going on here, but it’s well-judged and lends an extra layer of complexity, as well as providing additional tension. Excellent precision defines the mid-palate, but there’s still a generosity and softness that lends charm with structure. Long and classy, it’s amazing that such a warm vintage can provide such togetherness and balance.
Originating in France yet now grown in many parts of the New World, Chenin Blanc is one of the most versatile and highly regarded white wine grape varietals on earth. These green skinned grapes hold a relatively high acid content, and as such can be used for making still white wines of exceptional quality, as well as superb sparkling wines (such as the Crémant wines of the Loire Valley) and extremely aromatic dessert wines. Their natural transparency means that they are a fine grape for expressing their terroir in the bottle, and winemakers often experiment with this varietal to coax unusual and intense flavors from the grapes, such as allowing the development of noble rot on the fruit in order to make sweet and viscous wines of a unique character.
France, often regarded as the heart of the wine world, boasts a rich history, diverse terroirs, and a captivating variety of grape varietals. From the renowned vineyards of Bordeaux to the picturesque landscapes of Burgundy, France offers a wine lover’s dream journey. Whether you’re new to the world of wine or a seasoned enthusiast looking […]
Within France, the one region most closely associated with fine white and rosé wines is surely the Loire Valley. With over eight controlled appellations, and a relatively large expanse of land covering this wide valley, the Loire Valley is an ideal location for wineries wishing to produce large quantities of excellent quality vines for their wine production. Indeed, this region has been associated with excellent white wines for over a thousand years, with it once being the favorite wine region for the crowned heads of England, France and beyond. Today, it produces a wide range of white wines, and several rosé and red varieties also. It is also widely celebrated for being home to some of France's most lively and fruity sparkling crémant wines, which more than match those produced in nearby Champagne.
Appellation
Vouvray/Touraine
Touraine is a French wine appellation in the heart of the Loire Valley, known for its diversity and value. It produces a wide range of wine styles, including crisp whites, light reds, fresh rosés, and elegant sparkling wines. The region’s cool climate and varied soils contribute to its distinctive character.
White wines, especially those made from Sauvignon Blanc, are the appellation’s hallmark—zesty, aromatic, and citrus-driven, often with a stony or grassy edge. Red Touraine is typically made from Gamay, Cabernet Franc, or Pinot Noir, offering juicy red fruit and soft tannins. Rosés are dry and refreshing, and méthode traditionnelle sparkling wines are increasingly respected.
Touraine’s wines are approachable, versatile, and food-friendly, making them ideal for everyday drinking and discovery. For wine lovers seeking a gateway into French terroir without the price tag of more famous regions, Touraine delivers quality and character with unmistakable Loire charm.

Starts off stylish and supple, with dried ginger, pear and chamomile streaked with saline and bitter lemon zest. Firmly structured and focused on the palate, with a lavish brush of toasty cedar blending nicely into the backdrop. Cardamom and pink peppercorn add to the complex, long finish. Excellent. Drink now through 2030. 1,000 cases made, 200 cases imported.
