The 2022 Chassagne-Montrachet Morgeot Clos de la Chapelle 1er Cru has a fairly straightforward lime and orange pith-scented nose that just needs to manifest more terroir expression and minéralité. The palate is vexing. Rather flat and lacking the vigour promised by the nose, it is not terrible, but it deteriorates in the glass and feels slightly oxidised on the finish. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.

Of all the white wine grape varietals, surely the one that has spread the furthest and is most widely appreciated is Chardonnay.
