On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, velvety and supple, with lively balancing acids and promising back-end grip.

Very different in style to the 2017 vintage of this wine. Almost exotic and voluptuous on both the nose and palate, there is plenty of fleshy, ripe dark fruit here with good acidity in the background promising a long life ahead. It will need time to soften and develop further complexity, but the signs are very good. All grapes were de-stemmed in this 2018 vintage.

The 2018 Nuits-Saint-Georges Clos de L'Arlot 1er Cru was completely de-stemmed, unlike recent vintages. This is obvious on the nose that is very different from the 2017, more fruit-driven, less sous-bois character with dark cherries, wild strawberry and light briary aromas. The palate is medium-bodied, very smooth and refined, a little more saline than the 2017, although I miss the whole bunch element towards the finish. Tasted at the Domaine de L'Arlot tasting at La Cabotte in London.

Subtle but not invisible wood and menthol nuances set off the spicy and riper yet fresh aromas of red cherry, plum, cassis and soft earth whiffs. There is a lovely mouthfeel to the medium weight flavors thanks primarily to the fine grained tannins supporting the firm, balanced and bitter cherry-inflected finale. This relatively racy effort offers focused power and is also clearly built to reward mid to perhaps even longer-term cellaring. Worth a look.

Winery Notes

The finesse and elegance of this wine convey an irresistible impression of immediate pleasure. It starts off with a radiant, complex bouquet with a combination of notes of raspberries, red currants, cherries and strawberries with floral nuances. The dialogue continues in the mouth with the discovery of a red wine with a delicate, elegant structure and good underlying concentration. This is a well-balanced wine with supple tannins which wins one over with its never-ending length, which emphasizes the red fruit flavours.
