The beautifully and unforgettable French region of Cote De Beaune has been revered throughout the centuries, and recognized as one of the key producer's of the world's finest white wines. The region is highly respected as an excellent producer of Chardonnay wines, and the Chardonnay grapes which grow there, on the southern slopes of the Cote d'Or, are packed full of the unique and powerful characteristics of this very special terroir. Interestingly, Cote De Beaune produces more red wine than white wine, despite its white wines being so famous. The red wines of Cote De Beaune are mainly made from Pinot Noir, but are relatively very light and fruity in their character, perfect for sipping on a warm, sunny day alongside a wide range of foods.

A pretty red, this features wild strawberry and cherry fruit along with accents of spice and licorice, showing terrific harmony and length. Seductive now, but the gentle tannins suggest this could benefit from at least another few years of age. Best from 2018 through 2030. 2,133 cases made, 253 cases imported.

Burghound

Most of the oak this displayed from barrel has now been successfully integrated on the restrained, cool, pure and layered nose of black cherry, cassis, warm earth and an impressive array of sauvage and underbrush notes. There is moderately good richness to the overtly powerful and muscular flavors that possess an imposing sense of scale that continues onto the textured and mouth coating finish that is long, tannic and very Corton in character. Like the 2015 version, this is an old school effort that is presently evolving glacially though with that said this is not as austere as it easily could be given the 2013 vintage.

Bright medium red. Rather cool nose offers scents of black cherry, dark raspberry, menthol, licorice, black pepper, caraway seed, crushed herbs and spices. Surprisingly smooth and fine-grained on entry, with its almost velvety texture enlivened by notes of fresh herbs, licorice, dried flowers and medicinal black cherry. Offers an attractive combination of subtle sweetness and salinity, conveying clear if subtle soil tones; more black fruits than red. Ultimately a midweight for this bottling. This may not possess quite the density or sweetness to buffer its dusty tannins, at least in the early going, but it's very young and still imploded, and displays considerable power for the vintage. From a very late harvest, beginning on October 2. (13.15% alcohol; 3.4 pH; 3.7 g/l acidity; 41 h/h yield)

Winery Notes

Ruby red in colour with clear purple reflections. The nose is powerful, concentrated and exudes notes of black cherry and spice. The palate is rich and smooth with good energy and concentration. The finish is elegant. An excellent wine for cellar ageing. Serve with: Seared foie gras with armagnac, game, quail, full-flavoured cheeses such as Cîteaux or Reblochon.
