The super fresh, sour-cherry nose leads you into a very concentrated and focused red with a lot of mineral and graphite character. The tannins are a shade firmer than in the other Grand Crus from Faiveley, but it was always that way. Deep, dark and cool finish that goes on and on. Better from 2023.

Interestingly, Cote De Beaune produces more red wine than white wine, despite its white wines being so famous. This red starts out generous, with a supple texture buffering vivid acidity and firm tannins, allowing the cherry, strawberry, blood orange and spice flavors to star. Shuts down on the finish, delivering more structure than fruit. Licorice and sandalwood accents come into play. Best from 2023 through 2045.

92-94 An intensely earthy nose is comprised by notably ripe dark currant aromas that are cut with underbrush, spice and a whiff of wood toast and the sauvage. There is an attractive freshness and plenty of vivacity to the velvet-textured full-bodied and overtly muscular flavors that possess terrific punch on the beautifully long, youthfully austere and notably firm finish. I like the overall sense of complexity and this too should age effortlessly. 92-94 points

The 2017 Corton Grand Cru Clos des Cortons Faiveley is showing very well, mingling aromas of blackberries, red berries and cassis with notions of cinnamon, clove and blood orange. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, with a fleshy core of fruit, ripe but lively acids and powdery framing tannins, concluding with a sapid, youthfully oak-inflected finish. This is a deep and comparatively structured effort in the context of this approachable vintage, and it will merit a bit of bottle age.

This was a superb showing in 2017 for this classic wine from Faiveley. Thin soils and east-facing exposure ripen fruit well, and the harvest in this year began on 29th August. The yield was good, and the wine is fresh and aromatic, with a perfumed nose of red fruits and violet. It is showing a bit of wood at present but should come together well with a bit of aging. This wine demonstrated that 2017 will be a vintage to drink on the fruit, yet will provide great pleasure. Drinking Window 2021 - 2034.

The 2017 Corton Clos des Cortons-Faiveley Grand Cru has a very well-defined bouquet of vivacious red fruit, sous-bois and light rose petal scents; there is a slight reduction here. The palate is grippy and lightly spiced, with good red fruit intensity, but does not quite deliver the expected weight and concentration on the finish. This is a bit conservative compared to the Clos des Marechaudes from Domaine du Pavillon. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting.

Winery Notes

Ruby red in colour with clear purple reflections. The nose is powerful, concentrated and exudes notes of black cherry and spice. The palate is rich and smooth with good energy and concentration. The finish is elegant. An excellent wine for cellar ageing. Serve with: Seared foie gras with armagnac, game, quail, full-flavoured cheeses such as Cîteaux or Reblochon.
