A wine with an incredible purity of citrus fruit and just a hint of reduction, plus a buttery note and a creamy texture that come out on the palate. Marvellous. This textbook Meursault is produced from domaine-owned parcels such as the Clos du Cromin, En la Barre and Casse Têtes, as well as fruit purchased from Narvaux, Tillets, Limosin, Chevalières and Petits Charrons. The grapes are lightly crushed and pressed in a state-of-the-art vertical press with the cage sealed. The must is fermented in cask (20% new).

Of all the white wine grape varietals, surely the one that has spread the furthest and is most widely appreciated is Chardonnay. This green-skinned grape is now grown all over the Old and New Worlds, from New Zealand to the Americas, from England to Chile, and is one of the first varietals people think of when considering white wine grapes. Perhaps this is because of its huge popularity, which reached a peak in the 1990s, thanks to new technologies combining with traditional methods to bring the very best features out of the Chardonnay grape and allow its unique qualities to shine through. Most fine Chardonnay wines use a process known as malolactic fermentation, wherein the malic acids in the grape juice are converted to lactic acids, allowing a creamier, buttery nature to come forward in the wine. No grape varietal is better suited to this process than Chardonnay, which manages to balance these silky, creamy notes with fresh white fruit flavors beautifully.

The region is highly respected as an excellent producer of Chardonnay wines, and the Chardonnay grapes which grow there, on the southern slopes of the Cote d'Or, are packed full of the unique and powerful characteristics of this very special terroir. Interestingly, Cote De Beaune produces more red wine than white wine, despite its white wines being so famous. The red wines of Cote De Beaune are mainly made from Pinot Noir, but are relatively very light and fruity in their character, perfect for sipping on a warm, sunny day alongside a wide range of foods.

Notes of smoked hazelnut, poached pear and pretty acacia blossom scents introduce sleek, intense and beautifully delineated medium-bodied flavors that coat the palate on the clean, focused, balanced and beautifully long finale. This could use a bit more depth but overall, this is a first-rate Meursault villages.

Hue: Bright yellow with hints of green. Nose: Very pure – slight reduction – yellow fruit – apricot – mirabelle plum – very sexy - delicate. Palate: Rich – smooth – precise - mineral – excellent length with a salty finish.
