A bit surly now, this red is muscular, with beefy tannins wrapping up the black cherry, blackberry, earth, iron and tobacco flavors. Concentrated and vibrant, but needs time to integrate more fully. Best from 2023 through 2045. 15 cases imported.
Regularly described as being the grape varietal responsible for producing the world's most romantic wines, Pinot Noir has long been associated with elegance and a broad range of flavors The name means 'black pine' in French, and this is due to the fact that the fruit of this particular varietal is especially dark in color, and hangs in a conical shape, like that of a pine cone. Despite being grown today in almost every wine producing country, Pinot Noir is a notoriously difficult grape variety to cultivate. This is because it is especially susceptible to various forms of mold and mildew, and thrives best in steady, cooler climates. However, the quality of the fruit has ensured that wineries and vintners have persevered with the varietal, and new technologies and methods have overcome many of the problems it presents. Alongside this, the wide popularity and enthusiasm for this grape has ensured it will remain a firm favorite amongst wine drinkers for many years to come.

Burghound
This is aromatically quite similar to the Gevrey 1er though with a broader panoply of spice elements. There is more obvious minerality as well as better size, weight and power to the tautly muscular flavors that display excellent focus and drive on the linear, youthfully austere and firmly structured finish.

The 2017 Chambertin Grand Cru, which is completely de-stemmed, has quite an understated, elegant bouquet for this vineyard, hints of salted liquorice infusing the black fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannin - an assertive Chambertin that feels strict and, unlike the aromatics, quite penetrating. Yet, I seek a little more nuance and preferably more red fruit towards the finish. It just needs to loosen its tie.
Winery Notes
Classical ruby red. Subtle with delicate spicy and fruity (vanilla, cherry) and slightly mentholated notes. The palate is delicious and smooth. Tasty fruity texture evolving into spicy and menthol notes. Fine, fresh and subtle tannins.
Moderate wood and menthol elements frame more elegant if otherwise similar fruit profile. However, there is noticeably better mid-palate concentration…
