91-93 The 2019 Vosne-Romanée La Croix Rameau 1er Cru has quite a different bouquet than Lamarche’s other crus, offering deep red currant and cranberry fruit, and more savory, with light garrigue-like aromas. The well-balanced palate shows good grip on the entry. Very well balanced, with tart red fruit laced with crushed limestone toward the finish. Not the most powerful Premier Cru you will find in Vosne, yet very stylish.

90-93 A more restrained and not quite as exuberantly spicy array exhibits notes of red cherry and a pretty grouping of floral elements. The succulent and round medium weight flavors retain good cut and definition while delivering fine length on the balanced finish that is at once powerful yet refined. This too should reward 12 to 15 years of cellaring while likely being approachable after 6 to 8 years.

There is a fragrant red and black berry fruit, with mineral, almost saline notes on the attack. It's extremely elegant, but not as rich as some in this portfolio, with a silky texture, but lacking the power you might expect. The tiny lieu-dit of La Croix Rameau abuts Romanée-St-Vivant, and Lamarche is one of three proprietors, along with René Cacheux and Coudray-Bizot in Beaune.
