A chiseled, focused, mineral-laced Gevrey, the 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin 1Er Cru Les Corbeaux comes from a lieu-dit next to Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru on an east-facing slope and is a different beast compared to the Chambertin Grand Cru and Vieilles Vignes, with a fresher, more focused style while still not leaving the confines of the sunny 2019 vintage. Ripe red and black fruits, woodsmoke, leafy herbs, and sappy, floral nuances all shine on the nose, and on the palate, it’s rich, medium-bodied, and nicely concentrated, with notable yet nicely integrated acidity, ripe tannins, and outstanding length. This beauty is going to benefit from 2-4 years in the cellar and should see its 20th birthday in fine form. Drink 2030-2050.
