The 2014 Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Capita comes from three parcels in Combotte, Corbeaux and Ergot. It had shut up shop when I tasted it from barrel with the fruit tightly coiled and not coming out to play. “Grump” might be the word, piqued at being asked to perform so soon. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin and there is some oak here to be assimilated. There is quite a structured, grippy finish, sturdy but still compelling. It will benefit from at least 2-3 years in bottle to shake off its broody sensibility.

Light-medium red. Wonderfully scented nose combines strawberry, cherry, dried rose and earth. Very pure, silky wine with subtle sweetness and a seamless texture to its sappy fruit, spice and saline mineral flavors. Boasts a terrific combination of thickness and energy. Most impressive today on the unflagging, classically dry finish, which leaves behind a cherry perfume. Really positive use of whole clusters here. (Vinous)
