The 2019 Brunello di Montalcino Progetto Prime Donne is a seductress enticing with exotic spice, rubbed sage, cedar, dusty rose and dried strawberry aromas. Cool-toned and classic in feel, it washes across the palate with seamlessly silky textures that balance tart wild berries with vibrant acidity. Tactile minerals add grip toward the close. This finishes dramatically long and staining, leaving violet inner florals to mingle with orange as a web of fine tannins frames the experience perfectly. The 2019 is the most balanced and complex rendition of Prime Donne l've yet encountered.
The nose is savory yet fresh, with aromas of salt, earth, hot tar and mixed herbs, while undertones of cherries and blackberries provide a spark of tart fruit. That spark explodes on the palate, but a very salty, savory element persists, while polished yet powerful tannins and lively acid underscore just a hint of bitter orange.
The organic 2019 Brunello di Montalcino Prime Donne has more luscious fruit compared to the village bottling. It exhibits chocolate-covered cherry, exotic incense, dark plum, balsam herb and earthy iris root. It also reveals a bigger mouthfeel with concentrated fruit and a thick, direct delivery capped by velvety tannins. These results are fruity and expressive. Production is limited to 9,663 bottles.
Blackberry, cedar and sandalwood aromas with some lavender follow through to a medium body with firm and silky tannins that show polish and poise. It’s linear and tight. Refined. From organically grown grapes. Needs a couple of years to open. Best after 2025.
Rich ruby/red in color, the 2019 Brunello Di Montalcino Progetto Prime Donne is a little reserved on opening in the glass and slowly reveals deep aromas of dried black cherries, licorice, worn leather, forest floor, and cedar. It’s powerfully structured on the palate, with rich tannins, mouthwatering acidity along the sides of the palate, and mineral-tinged undercurrents that propel the wine through its long finish.
