Pineau de Charentes is a traditional term for an alcoholic beverage produced by adding high-strength spirit to unfermented or slightly fermented fruit juice The result is lighter than a fortified wine, that should fall between 15-22 percent alcohol by volume. Because the grapes have not been fermented the Vin Pineau retains the varietal character of the grape itself.
