Of all the white wine grape varietals, surely the one that has spread the furthest and is most widely appreciated is Chardonnay. Notes of yellow apples, honeycomb, pears and candle wax preface the 2017 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru les Petits Clos, a medium to full-bodied, bright and tensile white with a tight-knit core and a precise, chalky finish. This is one of the most reserved of these 2017s from Jean-Noël Gagnard.

There is a touch of the exotic in evidence on the fresh and deftly oaked mix of both white and yellow orchard fruit aromas that include white peach, apricot and passion fruit. The seductively textured if not especially dense medium weight flavors possess an attractively refined mouth feel while exhibiting fine length on the moderately complex finale that is shaped by firm citrus-tinged acidity.
