A concentrated and very well-structured Beaune that has plenty of positive tannic power. Still quite tightly wound, but there’s excellent fruit and everything fits together very neatly at the long, spicy and earthy finish. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drink or hold.

The beautifully and unforgettable French region of Cote De Beaune has been revered throughout the centuries, and recognized as one of the key producer's of the world's finest white wines. The region is highly respected as an excellent producer of Chardonnay wines, and the Chardonnay grapes which grow there, on the southern slopes of the Cote d'Or, are packed full of the unique and powerful characteristics of this very special terroir. Interestingly, Cote De Beaune produces more red wine than white wine, despite its white wines being so famous. The red wines of Cote De Beaune are mainly made from Pinot Noir, but are relatively very light and fruity in their character, perfect for sipping on a warm, sunny day alongside a wide range of foods.

The 2019 Beaune Grèves ler Cru has a well-defined bouquet of dark berry fruit, light seaweed and oyster shell scents, and the 30% whole cluster lends a subtle tertiary aspect. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp, slightly chalky tannins. This is very well structured, delivering palpable energy. A saline finish gets the saliva flowing. Just a delicious Beaune Grèves.

Aromas of cassis, plums, orange rind and sweet spices introduce Drouhin's 2019 Beaune 1er Cru Les Grèves, a medium to full-bodied, bright and lively wine that's perfumed and precise, framed by powdery tannins and lively acids. It's more elegant and refined than its 2018 counterpart.

Burghound

A slightly more complex if less elegant nose presents notes of both various red berries and plenty of floral elements. The delicious, generous and mouthcoating medium-bodied flavors possess focused power on the compact, firmly structured and mildly austere finale. I very much like the texture which should permit this to be enjoyed on the younger side though be aware that there is sufficient underlying material to repay 12 to 15 years of cellaring.

Winery Notes

A great wine, one of the most representative of Beaune, the capital of Burgundy. Intense and bright red colour. The nose displays aromas of red currant with some spicy notes. With age and in some vintages, the aromas become even more marked by spicy and smoky touches, such as tobacco. On the palate, the tannins are refined and create a seductive harmony. In the aftertaste there is a marked flavour of "crème de cassis" (cream of black currant) and delicate touches of wood.
