Long-term Pre-arrival Items
Long Term Pre-arrival Definition: Ordering wine directly through us from our supplier partners in Europe in advance of the item’s physical arrival in the US.
Long Term Pre-arrival sales ensure you’re getting the best possible price and that you have also secured the product before it hits the normal retail supply chain. The lead time for Pre-arrival goods is generally 4–8 months, sometimes longer based on supply chain and the logistics of transporting goods overseas. The expectation, from our team, is to communicate to the customer the location of their purchase every step of the way.
This product is offered as a full case purchase option, minimum order quantities may be applicable. When available, multiple case options will be presented. If you are purchasing a Pre-Arrival item you must order a solid case.
Rapid Ship
Items listed as "rapid ship" are in stock and available for immediate pickup or shipment. Those that do not have the "rapid ship" icon are housed with our supplier and must be transferred to our warehouse before they can be picked up or shipped. This requires 4-6 business days but usually occurs sooner. Some products will list both options of availability as there will be a certain number in stock, with the option to order additional bottles to be transferred from the supplier.

There is enough wood influence to mention setting off the liqueur-like aromas of black cherry liqueur, plum, smoke, Asian-style tea and subtle floral wisps. Like the Clos de Vougeot the big-bodied and overtly muscular flavors possess superb richness while displaying evident power on the mouth coating, extract-rich and superbly persistent finish where the wood exhibited by the nose reappears. In short, this is breathtakingly good.

This year’s Grands-Echezeaux was vinified inside a 300 litre barrel without any destemming, but the wine is not as aberrant as one might expect, opening in the glass with a bouquet of black fruit, game, violet and spice. On the palate the wine is rich, intense and savoury, with some stem tannins asserting themselves on the back end. Overall this remains true to the fine lineage of Drouhin’s Grands-Echezeaux.

The 2016 Grands Echézeaux Grand Cru has a refined bouquet with blackberry, blueberry, woodland and spice box aromas—quite complex and very focused, growing in stature in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin. The oak comes through rather too strongly on the finish, and I hope this is assimilated by the time it is bottled. I did inquire and was told that it was matured in a single 350-liter barrel that was one year old, so maybe it was just one of those days?

Healthy dark red. Much more interesting on the nose than the Clos Vougeot, with aromas of raspberry, flowers, spices and medicinal menthol joined by riper notes of chocolate and mirabelle. Plush, ripe and sweet on the attack, offering a refined texture but suggesting a wide range of ripeness with its notes of prune, spices, mint and menthol. Finishes with serious, late-arriving tannins and a saline mineral quality that piques the taste buds. Still a bit disjointed, this wine will need patience to take its ultimate shape.
Winery Notes
In its youth, the wine displays aromas of great finesse, reminiscent of cherry and dark chocolate or cocoa bean, which is a delicate and sought after characteristic of this wine. As the wine matures, these aromas evolve towards other refined nuances evoking undergrowth, truffle, fine leather and sometimes light notes of cigar or cedar wood. The result is of great elegance and breed. The tannins are refined and the silk and velvet of the body are a perfect match. Very long aftertaste in which some of the aromas previously encountered are again in evidence and create the most elegant sensation.
