Known as Syrah in most countries around the world, and Shiraz in Australia and certain other regions of the New World, this grape varietal has proven over the centuries to be one of the most powerful and flavorful red wine grapes there is. The 2017 Syrah Single Vineyard Series Steepside is matured for 20 months in seasoned oak. There is a slight reduction on the nose with dark berry fruit and light violet scents. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins, well balanced and definitely a more elegant and understated Syrah with long and tender finish. Lovely.

Winery Notes

• 100% Syrah. • Planted in 2005 on steep mid-slope on the Helderberg Mountain range, 300 MASL. • Red clay loam soils with high levels of iron and quartzite. • Hand harvested in small batches. • Each parcel is fermented separately with indigenous yeast in open top fermenters. • Aged 20 months in seasoned French oak barriques. • Bottling is carried out by hand with no filtration.
