The 2022 Burlenberg is a Pinot Noir with a smaller addition of white Pinot grapes grown where limestone meets granite with volcanic ash at altitude. The nose is subtle with slight smokiness, but the palate comes with all the personality we expect, with beautiful, calm vigor, insistence and presence. It contains the heat of the year but is totally in charge of it. The tannins are dense but fused and despite the inevitable strength, it is beautifully taut and contained. A gorgeous wine with tons of personality. (Bone-dry)

Indeed, being on the border between France and Germany has resulted in Alsatian wines being something of a mix between the wines of these two countries. Riesling varietal grapes are grown in enormous quantities here, and display all of their crisp, dry complexity perfectly in the famous wines of Alsace. Alongside this typically Germanic wine, Alsatian vintners also produce plenty of Pinot Noir, Gewurztraminer, Muscat and Sauvignon Vert wines, all of which are superb when it comes to expressing the finer features of the wonderful Alsatian terroir.
