Minimalist winemaking (whole bunch, wild ferment in barrel) for an expressive nose – green figs, lime, quince, naartjies – while the palate has a creamed white pear quality with a touch of cinnamon-honey spice. ‘Chenin Blanc without Verdelho is like dancing without music,’ says own-label winemaker, Marelise Niemann. ‘Verdelho gives it that extra twist of freshness, energy and rhythm.’ Fruit from six different vineyards in the Paardeberg, Piekenierskloof and Bot River.
