The expectation, from our team, is to communicate to the customer the location of their purchase every step of the way.

The 2022 Chianti Classico is a powerful wine, one that marries the intensity of the year with the translucent energy that is such a signature here. Readers will have to be patient, as this is far from an easygoing Chianti Classico. Time in the glass releases the aromatics somewhat, but the 2022 is in no mood to show all of its cards. It is easily one of the most reticent wines of the vintage.
The name of this grape, meaning 'blood of Jove' conjures up evocative images of long dead civilizations, and gives the Sangiovese varietal a sense of the holy, the sacred, the special. Indeed, this particular type of Italian grape has been cultivated and processed for thousands of years, and is said to be the original favorite grape varietal of the Romans, and the Etruscans before them. Throughout history, vintners have continued to plant this varietal, and they continue to produce wonderful wines to this day. The long bunches of very dark, round fruit are treasured by fine wineries in Italy and a few other places around the world, and when young, these grapes are lively – full of strawberry flavors and a little spiciness. However, it is when they are aged in oak that they take on some truly special flavors and aromas, as seen in some of the finest wines of the Old World.

Since those times, a vast amount of Italian land has remained primarily for vine cultivation, and thousands of wineries can be found throughout the entire length and breadth of this beautiful country, drenched in Mediterranean sunshine and benefiting from the excellent fertile soils found there. Today, Tuscany is home to a wide range of wines, from the traditional to the complex, but all dedicated to excellent flavors and aromas, and maintaining the region's international reputation.

Winery Notes
Sangiovese and Canaiolo & Colorino (co-planted as is traditional in Chianti). Montesecondo comprises two separate properties: both are biodynamically farmed and both lie in the San Casciano zone of Chianti Classico but are quite different from each other. The original family vineyard, generally referred to as "Montesecondo", is lower-altitude, warmer, flatter and with heavier clay soils in the town of Cerbaia; the newer one, referred to as Vignano for the name of the tiny village, is up at 500 meters and is cooler, hillier and rich in limestone. The Chianti is a blend of both sites, with proportions varying by vintage. The grapes are hand-harvested and mainly destemmed but with up to 30% whole clusters in the mix. Pressing is gentle and fermentation with indigenous yeasts is spontaneous in concrete tanks without sulfur. The wine is aged mainly in concrete for 1-1.5 years, bottled without fining or filtering and released in the late spring two years after the vintage.
