Long Term Pre-arrival Definition: Ordering wine directly through us from our supplier partners in Europe in advance of the item’s physical arrival in the US.
Long Term Pre-arrival sales ensure you’re getting the best possible price and that you have also secured the product before it hits the normal retail supply chain. The lead time for Pre-arrival goods is generally 4–8 months, sometimes longer based on supply chain and the logistics of transporting goods overseas. The expectation, from our team, is to communicate to the customer the location of their purchase every step of the way.
This product is offered as a full case purchase option, minimum order quantities may be applicable. When available, multiple case options will be presented. If you are purchasing a Pre-Arrival item you must order a solid case.
Rapid Ship
Items listed as "rapid ship" are in stock and available for immediate pickup or shipment. Those that do not have the "rapid ship" icon are housed with our supplier and must be transferred to our warehouse before they can be picked up or shipped. This requires 4-6 business days but usually occurs sooner. Some products will list both options of availability as there will be a certain number in stock, with the option to order additional bottles to be transferred from the supplier.

This is the top-shelf wine from Mariacristina Oddero and her family. The 2016 Barolo Riserva Vignarionda is magnificent on all fronts. I am especially struck by the bouquet that delivers never-ending nuances with playful menthol tones, fresh violet and licorice that frame elegant forest berry and blood orange. The aromas offer beautiful energy and brightness. The wine is absolutely fine on the palate with delicately drying tannin and a very long and silky texture. It shows a solid, firm quality that bodes well for its future evolution. The mouthfeel is lightweight but enduring. Fruit comes from an excellent south-facing site in Serralunga d’Alba at 360 meters in elevation. Mariacristina is joined by her children in the winery, and they prefer to age in large Austrian oak casks for 24 months before putting the wine in cement before it goes into glass. Finding one of the 3,500 bottles made is worth the effort.
The Nebbiolo grape varietal is widely understood to be the fruit responsible for Italy's finest aged wines. However, its popularity and reliability as a grape which gives out outstanding flavors and aromas has led it to be planted in many countries around the world, with much success. These purple grapes are distinguishable by the fact that they take on a milky dust as they begin to reach maturity, leading many to claim that this is the reason for their unusual name, which means 'fog' in Italian. Nebbiolo grapes produce wines which have a wide range of beautiful and fascinating flavors, the most common of which are rich, dark and complex, such as violet, truffle, tobacco and prunes. They are generally aged for many years to balance out their characteristics, as their natural tannin levels tend to be very high.

There are few countries in the world with a viticultural history as long or as illustrious as that claimed by Italy. Piedmont
Situated in the north-western part of Italy, the region of Piedmont is known worldwide and is highly respected for the quality of the wines produced there. Many of the most successful sub-regions in Piedmont produce many of the world's finest red wines, such as those made from the excellent Nebbiolo grape varietal in areas such as Barolo and Barbaresco. However, the historic wineries which typify this region use a relatively wide variety of grapes, including Dolcetto and Barbera for their red wines, which are typically aged and have a delightful velvety character. Piedmont isn't all about beautifully complex red wines, though, as it is also famed for high quality, elegant sparkling wines, notably the Asti wines made with the white Moscato grape. The 2016 Barolo Riserva Vigna Rionda brings together all the best this site and vintage have to offer. Towering and statuesque in its presence, the 2016 is all pedigree. Dark cherry, lavender, licorice, violet, spice and graphite all soar from the glass. Medium in body, with gorgeous inner perfume and structure to burn, the 2016 is lights out. I love the complexity, nuance and energy here.

Fresh flowers and purple fruits with sandalwood aromas. It’s full-bodied with firm and fine tannins that are chewy and pretty. Linear and racy. Still very youthful and fresh. This needs another three or four years but impressive to taste and to drink.
Winery Notes
Intense garnet-ruby red color, deep, limpid. Complex bouquet of dark fruit, blackberries, citrus and rose, balsamic notes of tobacco, liquorice and quina, with nuances of forest underbrush and wet limestone. In the mouth, the wine displays firm tannins, freshness, persistence and longevity.
