Echoing my impressions from barrel last year, the 2023 Songs Of Its Own is 60% Grenache (destemmed) and 40% Mourvèdre (whole cluster). A dark, spice-driven, focused nose gradually takes on floral qualities in the glass along with an increasingly leather-bound, savory undercurrent. The palate is vibrantly plush with a staining, intense but ultimately bright finish framed with powdery, fine-grained tannins and a lingering umami quality. Beautifully balanced and impressively alluring, this is a lovely calling card for Ryan Pease’s winemaking style.

Based on 50% Grenache and 50% Mourvèdre, aged 14 months in neutral French oak, the 2023 Songs Of Its Own reveals darker Bing cherries, mulberries, violets, and black pepper. It's medium-bodied on the palate, with solid mid-palate depth, ripe, polished tannins, and good overall balance. It has finesse as well as richness and will keep for a solid decade. Drink 2025-2035.
