It was good to taste the 2022 Plácet Valtomelloso, the only white produced here, with a little bit of time, as most of the time I tasted it too young. It has settled in bottle, and the nose has clarity, nothing reductive about it, and the balsamic notes so prevalent in its infancy seem to have receded to give way to Mediterranean tones of fennel and straw, white fruit and flowers with a faint spicy twist. It's round and juicy, with the ripeness of a warm and dry year. It has 13.5% alcohol, a balanced and elegant mouthfeel and a dry, chalky finish. It fermented in oval oak foudres with indigenous yeasts where it matured for five months. 16,600 bottles produced. It was bottled in Mach 2023.

Enticing hints of white blossoms, vanilla and graphite are a fragrant entry point for this graceful white. There's some weight and density on the palate, but also fine, sculpted acidity that keeps this bright and harmonious and frames a lovely range of creamed apple, baked white peach, crushed pine and salted Marcona almond flavors, ending with a long, silky finish. Drink now through 2032. 1,388 cases made, 500 cases imported.

Winery Notes

Plácet, meaning "consent", is beautiful straw gold in color, with enticing aromas of orange blossoms, white pears, golden apples, and freshly-baked brioche. Full-bodied, with perfectly-balanced acidity, this wine contains succulent flavors of white peaches, creamed honey and soft minerality, along with subtle hints of chamomile and fennel. 100% Viura.
