The Rhone Valley of southern France is a particularly fascinating wine region, with a history that stretches back to at least six hundred BCE, when the ancient Greeks first began cultivating vines there. Coming from two Jaboulet-owned parcels in Tupin-Semons, the 2020 Cote Rotie Les Pierrelles (Domaine) reflects the more elegant, finessed style of that part of the appellation. The oak sticks out a little, adding cedar, brown sugar and maple syrup notes to raspberries and hickory smoke on the nose, while the palate is medium to full-bodied and supple, turning a bit drying and woody on the finish.
