Structured and still very young, this is a dense and fruity wine. The tannins and the spice and licorice from wood aging show strongly, although they are just beginning to soften and integrate. Expect a rich wine, layered with fruit and ripe tannins as it develops. Drink from 2023. (Cellar Selection)

90-92 The 2013 Echézeaux Grand Cru has a ripe red currant jam, raspberry coulis and strawberry-scented nose: perfumed and quite floral. The palate is sweet and silky on the entry, linear with a smooth texture, though missing just a little complexity on the finish. Hopefully this will develop a little more joie de vivre because the aromatics deserve it.

90-92 Once again there is an all but invisible hint of volatile acidity lurking beneath the spice and dark currant aromas. There is excellent concentration and intensity to the velvety and wonderfully seductive flavors blessed with an abundance of dry extract that coats the mouth and buffers the tannins on the firmly structured finish. This is a big Ech with outstanding depth and while not technically perfect I suspect that most tasters would not be unduly concerned by the VA and I have factored this into my projected range. That said, if you're sensitive to it I would choose another wine in the range.
