The 2009 Extra-Brut Clos des Goisses Juste Rosé is showing brilliantly, unfurling in the glass with scents of white cherries, pear, fresh bread, orange oil, papaya and bee pollen. Medium to full-bodied, deep and tightly wound, it’s concentrated and incisive, with racy acids, superb mid-palate volume and an elegant pinpoint mousse. It concludes with a bright, penetrating finish. This has everything it needs to age very gracefully indeed. Disgorged in March 2020 with 4.5 grams per liter dosage, it’s a blend of 64% Pinot Noir with Chardonnay.

The sparkling wines of Champagne have been revered by wine drinkers for hundreds of years, and even today they maintain their reputation for excellence of flavor and character, and are consistently associated with quality, decadence, and a cause for celebration. Their unique characteristics are partly due to the careful blending of a small number of selected grape varietals, most commonly Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. These grapes, blended in fairly equal quantities, give the wines of Champagne their wonderful flavors and aromas, with the Pinot Noir offering length and backbone, and the Chardonnay varietal giving its acidity and dry, biscuity nature. It isn't unusual to sometimes see Champagne labeled as 'blanc de blanc', meaning it is made using only Chardonnay varietal grapes, or 'blanc de noir', which is made solely with Pinot Noir.

The beautiful rolling hillsides of the Champagne region of France have, for hundreds of years, been producing many of the world's most famous wines. The sparkling white wines to come out of Champagne's prestigious wineries have conquered the world, and are drank in celebration across the globe. The vast majority of the region is under vine, and grows predominantly Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grape varietals, which are usually blended together by master wine-makers in order to make their recognizable and widely loved produce. The north-easterly region of Champagne has a relatively cool climate, and quite a lot of rainfall, making it far from ideal for ripening grapes. However, the presence of heavily forested areas in the region helps maintain a balanced temperature, and the generations of expertise the wineries hold clearly produces excellent results in spite of the climatic problems.

The 2009 Extra-Brut Clos des Goisses Juste Rosé is absolutely gorgeous. In 2009, the Juste Rosé has a bit more body and resonance than normal, which works so well here given that it can be a bit fleeting. Crushed red berries, mint, white pepper and chalk are some of the many aromas and flavors that race through this taut, finely sculpted Rosé from Philipponnat. The 2009 is beautifully done. Dosage is 4.5 grams per liter.

Our attention is captivated from the first whiff by the dazzling aromatic complexity of this exceptional 2009 Juste Rosé. Such a vibrant expression of raspberry and citrus fruits ranging from blood orange to clementine mingling with floral scents of iris and rose. There is power and thrust for its full-bodied texture that stretches out on a long finish. One of the great rosé Champagnes from Clos des Goisses, it should age beautifully over the next 20 years. Dosage: 4.5 g/L. Disgorgement: March 2020. 64% Pinot Noir and 36% Chardonnay. Vinification in wooden casks including malolactic fermentation. Drinking Window 2030 - 2050.

Softly fruity and discreetly yeasty aromas are cool and pure with its notes of cherry, strawberry, quinine and pretty spice and floral wisps. There is a lovely sense of verve, and particularly so for the vintage, with a moderately firm mousse supporting the medium weight flavors that conclude in a dry, clean and persistent finish. This is a really lovely wine with fine depth and the hallmark finesse of clos de Goisses. Moreover, this is an ’09 of refinement, which is relatively rare. Lovely
