The NV Brut Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Cuvée de Réserve bursts with aromas of crisp stone fruit, orange zest, freshly baked bread and beeswax. Medium-bodied, ample and pillowy, with a fleshy core of fruit, racy acids and a saline finish, it’s animated by an attractive pinpoint mousse.

Varietal

Champagne Blend

The sparkling wines of Champagne have been revered by wine drinkers for hundreds of years, and even today they maintain their reputation for excellence of flavor and character, and are consistently associated with quality, decadence, and a cause for celebration. Their unique characteristics are partly due to the careful blending of a small number of selected grape varietals, most commonly Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. These grapes, blended in fairly equal quantities, give the wines of Champagne their wonderful flavors and aromas, with the Pinot Noir offering length and backbone, and the Chardonnay varietal giving its acidity and dry, biscuity nature. It isn't unusual to sometimes see Champagne labeled as 'blanc de blanc', meaning it is made using only Chardonnay varietal grapes, or 'blanc de noir', which is made solely with Pinot Noir.

Region

Champagne

The beautiful rolling hillsides of the Champagne region of France have, for hundreds of years, been producing many of the world's most famous wines. The sparkling white wines to come out of Champagne's prestigious wineries have conquered the world, and are drank in celebration across the globe. The vast majority of the region is under vine, and grows predominantly Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grape varietals, which are usually blended together by master wine-makers in order to make their recognizable and widely loved produce. The north-easterly region of Champagne has a relatively cool climate, and quite a lot of rainfall, making it far from ideal for ripening grapes. However, the presence of heavily forested areas in the region helps maintain a balanced temperature, and the generations of expertise the wineries hold clearly produces excellent results in spite of the climatic problems.

Very fine bready lemon citrus aromas here; a restrained, fresh and attractively raw expression of chardonnay aromas. The palate unleashes more flamboyant fruit flavors, heading through citrus to nectarine and peach. The focus never wavers. Long, fine and pure.

The NV Brut Cuvée de Réserve Grand Cru (base 2023) is laced with sweet floral notes, tropical fruit, green pear and mint. Aromatic and light on its feet, with lovely persistence, the 2023 base is a total delight. It's a fine introduction to the range at this reference-point house. Dosage is 5 grams per liter. Disgorged: November 2025.

Péters' Cuvée de Réserve is two thirds Le Mesnil Chardonnay, backed up with the house's highly complex perpetual reserve which adds an irresistable fresh, nutty, smoky and creamy depth to the chalky energy of the younger wines. The current edition, based on the 2023 vintage, is a little atypical thanks to that year's open-knit structure. It's a little less tensile than usual, with ripe orange stone fruit and bittersweet apricot-skin giving an impression of juiciness and ease before the perpetual reserve energy kicks in and pulls this back to charry-citrus focus and sourdough bread complexity. It's very much still a Péters wine in its clarity and refreshment value, though.

Fresh and lacy on the palate, with a beam of minerally chalk and saline notes underscoring flavors of Honeycrisp apple, poached quince, verbena and biscuit. Lightly spiced and creamy on the finish. Disgorged October 2024. Drink now.

This is a beautifully balanced selection that's crisp and laced with taut apple and citrus flavors. It has a rich texture, intense fruit and a tight minerality, which gives it structure and the potential for bottle aging.

The NV Champagne Cuvée de Reserve Brut is vibrant with soft lime candy, wet rock, and candied green apple. There is consistency to the palate, with more candied lime, green apple, and a delicate salinity, with the dosage rounding things out nicely. This is a fantastic aperitif with an energetic mousse that is versatile and fresh to drink now or over the coming 10 years.

Winery Notes

These are sleek, racy champagnes, expressing a classic character of Côte des Blancs chardonnay. They are marked by their fine acidity and prominent minerality, yet while they are always brisk and chalky. “We have a lot of acidity and a lot of minerality in all our wines,” says Rodolphe Péters. “We want to build the structure of our wines around both acidity and minerality, not acidity alone.
