Long Term Pre-arrival Definition: Ordering wine directly through us from our supplier partners in Europe in advance of the item’s physical arrival in the US.
Long Term Pre-arrival sales ensure you’re getting the best possible price and that you have also secured the product before it hits the normal retail supply chain. The lead time for Pre-arrival goods is generally 4–8 months, sometimes longer based on supply chain and the logistics of transporting goods overseas. The expectation, from our team, is to communicate to the customer the location of their purchase every step of the way.
This product is offered as a full case purchase option, minimum order quantities may be applicable. When available, multiple case options will be presented. If you are purchasing a Pre-Arrival item you must order a solid case.
Rapid Ship
Items listed as "rapid ship" are in stock and available for immediate pickup or shipment. Those that do not have the "rapid ship" icon are housed with our supplier and must be transferred to our warehouse before they can be picked up or shipped. This requires 4-6 business days but usually occurs sooner. Some products will list both options of availability as there will be a certain number in stock, with the option to order additional bottles to be transferred from the supplier.

The wet and soggy 2014 vintage was a washout in much of mainland Italy. Not in Sicily. It represents one of the best growing seasons in years and the resulting fruit is beautifully ripe, clean and fragrant. The 2014 Sicilia Menfi Cometa embodies the impressive success of this classic Sicilian vintage. This is a gorgeous wine with bright fruit aromas of peach, apricot and candied fruit. There is a layer of citrus freshness that recalls preserved lemon or tangerine skin. For the first years of its production, some 30% of Cometa’s mass was fermented in neutral oak (wood that was previously used to age Planeta’s Chardonnay). But from 2005 forward, the winery opted to use stainless steel instead. Cometa is usually bottled in April and released at the end of the calendar year.
The Fiano grape is a truly ancient grape, which historians and archaeologists believe was one of the key grape varietals used in the production of a famous and much written about ancient Roman wine. There is also evidence to suggest it was cultivated by the ancient Greeks before them, making it one of the oldest grape varietals in the world. Whilst Fiano grapes are now grown successfully in Australia and elsewhere in the New World, their home remains in the region of Campania in Italy, where they thrive under the hot Mediterranean sunshine. The fruit is notable for its spicy character and strong floral aroma, and the fact that it produces wines which are a beautiful straw color It often holds flavors of dark honey and hazelnut, making it a fascinating and characterful varietal for wine production.

There are few countries in the world with a viticultural history as long or as illustrious as that claimed by Italy. Grapes were first being grown and cultivated on Italian soil several thousand years ago by the Greeks and the Pheonicians, who named Italy 'Oenotria' – the land of wines – so impressed were they with the climate and the suitability of the soil for wine production. Of course, it was the rise of the Roman Empire which had the most lasting influence on wine production in Italy, and their influence can still be felt today, as much of the riches of the empire came about through their enthusiasm for producing wines and exporting it to neighbouring countries. Since those times, a vast amount of Italian land has remained primarily for vine cultivation, and thousands of wineries can be found throughout the entire length and breadth of this beautiful country, drenched in Mediterranean sunshine and benefiting from the excellent fertile soils found there. Italy remains very much a 'land of wines', and one could not imagine this country, its landscape and culture, without it.

The beautiful island of Sicily has been growing grapevines and producing wines for thousands of years, ever since the ancient Greeks first landed on its golden shores and noticed the island's true potential as a haven for quality grapes. Today, the island is one of Italy's primary wine regions, and even though over eighty percent of Sicily's grapevines are used for the production of sweet fortified wines, the remaining wineries making other wine styles are renowned around the world for their quality and character. Indeed, Sicilian wineries are famed for their ability to capture something of the sun-drenched region in their wines, and the vines they cultivate benefit enormously from the almost constant sunshine and the incredibly fertile volcanic soils which typify the island.

Possibly the best vintage of this Sicilian white that I have ever tasted. A 100% Fiano grown in Western Sicily near Argento from two separate limestone-clay based vineyards. The wine is entirely fermented in stainless steel tanks and kept on its lees. The result is an intense rush of quince, fennel, ripe peach, and sweet nectarines. Lovely mouthfeel, fresh acidic tension and terrific savoury length. A very exciting, stylish and convincing wine. Drinking Window 2015 - 2020.

Bright dark yellow. Delicate, vibrant aromas of tropical fruits, pear and sweet spices. Then bright and fresh on the palate too, where the pineapple fruit is joined by gingery spices and minerals; boasts very good texture and richness but this wine strikes me as a less opulent and more restrained version of Cometa than some past vintages. A very serious, youthfully backward wine with a slightly bitter, saline finish, this will undoubtedly be better after spending a couple more years in the cellar.
Winery Notes
Delicate aromas of chamomile, hay and mandarin and a mineral palate with vibrantly savoury traces which quiver and quench. Then the rhythm changes to become slower and more harmonious, an invitation to sip this outstanding white wine with the correct quietude enjoying its every change of tone. A silky tactile finish with a refined aftertaste of ripe apricot, of almond flowers and basil flowers. Pair this with some freshly caught and grilled snapper.
