The varietal red 2022 Castelão, from 40-year-old vines, is fresh and harmonious, quite elegant for the warm and dry vintage, from a grape well adapted to the conditions of the place. It fermented in stainless steel and lagar with indigenous yeasts and matured in neutral French oak barrels for around one year, but the oak is not perceived in the aromas, which are young and fruit-driven with some herbs and spiciness, and there’s a serious and elegant profile. It has good ripeness, a medium-bodied palate with delicate extraction, good depth and complexity, 13% alcohol, a pH of 3.46 and 5.27 grams of acidity. This is pleasant and very easy to drink, with character. It’s a very good value too. 9,940 bottles produced. It was bottled in March 2025.
