Long-term Pre-arrival Items
Long Term Pre-arrival Definition: Ordering wine directly through us from our supplier partners in Europe in advance of the item’s physical arrival in the US.
Long Term Pre-arrival sales ensure you’re getting the best possible price and that you have also secured the product before it hits the normal retail supply chain. The lead time for Pre-arrival goods is generally 4–8 months, sometimes longer based on supply chain and the logistics of transporting goods overseas. The expectation, from our team, is to communicate to the customer the location of their purchase every step of the way.
This product is offered as a full case purchase option, minimum order quantities may be applicable. When available, multiple case options will be presented. If you are purchasing a Pre-Arrival item you must order a solid case.
Rapid Ship
Items listed as "rapid ship" are in stock and available for immediate pickup or shipment. Those that do not have the "rapid ship" icon are housed with our supplier and must be transferred to our warehouse before they can be picked up or shipped. This requires 4-6 business days but usually occurs sooner. Some products will list both options of availability as there will be a certain number in stock, with the option to order additional bottles to be transferred from the supplier.

The 2015 Tinto Crasto Superior is a blend of 50% Touriga Nacional, 20% Tinta Roriz, 25% Touriga Franca and just 5% Souzão, aged for 12 months in 35% new French oak. It comes in at 14.2% alcohol. Sourced from relatively young (11 to 13 years old) vines in Douro Superior (i.e., not in Crasto’s Cima Corgo Quinta), this has become a beautiful bottling for the winery. At the winery’s lower end, it is largely eclipsing their regular Tinto—still very nice and notably less expensive but not always as interesting or as concentrated. This is probably the best since the 2011. Very fruit forward and sappy this year, its combination of purity and intensity of flavor makes it sensationally delicious—but always with lifted, not jammy, fruit. That is, no doubt, a product of the vintage. The fresh, lively fruit and vivid flavor is what the 2015s mostly do. It is also 2015-like in another way—a very elegant mid-palate. The concentration is subtle, but there is respectable concentration. Plus, the tannins are ripe, and the texture is caressing. It’s pretty fine. Will we feel that way in five years or ten? I think the freshness will preserve this nicely, but this is one of Crasto’s reds where how well it ages really isn’t going to be the point. Once you taste it, it will be hard to keep your hands off of it.

With a wine making history which stretches back thousands of years, it comes as little surprise that wine plays an important role in the cultural identity and practices of the country. The Phoenicians, the Carthaginians, the Greeks and the Romans all had a hand in forming Portugal as an important center for wine production, and over the millennia, this resulted in each region of this beautiful part of Europe producing its own distinctive wines easily identifiable and separate from neighboring Spain's. Today, the varied terroir and climate across Portugal allows a great range of wines to be made each year, from the fresh and dry Vinho Verde wines to the famous and widely drunk fortified Port wines, and many in between.

Douro
The undisputed jewel in Portugal's crown is the beautiful wine region of Douro, located along the banks of the river from where it gets its name. The region itself is renowned around the world for its range of wonderfully aromatic fortified wines, as well as a wide variety of still red and white wines made from native grape varietals. Wineries in the Douro region utilize a huge amount of different local grapes for their characterful wines, but generally the most popular are made from Tinta Roriz, a rich and flavorful red wine grape related to Spain's flagship Tempranillo. However, there are plenty of different red and white grape varietals used in the region, all benefiting from the excellent hot weather and mineral rich terroir which characterizes the Douro valleys.

Crasto Superior is fresh and balanced on the nose. Fresh on the palate, great body and ripe firm tannins. Very complex notes of dark berried fruits, gum cistus and cocoa lingering towards the elegant finish. Excellent length.
