The 2020 Bone Rock is a beautiful wine made all the more impressive as the result of a challenging harvest. It opens with a lush, dark-fruited nose accented by savory, herbal and meaty touches, although with slightly less clarity and overall intensity than found in more forgiving vintages. The palate is dramatic, opulent and lavish, showcasing punchy ripeness harnessed with admirable delineation and focus. The finish is explosive, chock-full of potent, saturating dark fruits, umami-laden richness and tight, fine, precise tannins. At this stage, any smoke taint present is faint enough to be steamrolled by the sheer mass of this behemoth, which successfully delivers a complete drinking experience.
