Long-term Pre-arrival Items
Long Term Pre-arrival Definition: Ordering wine directly through us from our supplier partners in Europe in advance of the item’s physical arrival in the US.
Long Term Pre-arrival sales ensure you’re getting the best possible price and that you have also secured the product before it hits the normal retail supply chain. The lead time for Pre-arrival goods is generally 4–8 months, sometimes longer based on supply chain and the logistics of transporting goods overseas. The expectation, from our team, is to communicate to the customer the location of their purchase every step of the way.
This product is offered as a full case purchase option, minimum order quantities may be applicable. When available, multiple case options will be presented. If you are purchasing a Pre-Arrival item you must order a solid case.
Rapid Ship
Items listed as "rapid ship" are in stock and available for immediate pickup or shipment. Those that do not have the "rapid ship" icon are housed with our supplier and must be transferred to our warehouse before they can be picked up or shipped. This requires 4-6 business days but usually occurs sooner. Some products will list both options of availability as there will be a certain number in stock, with the option to order additional bottles to be transferred from the supplier.

The 2018 Zeltinger Himmelreich Riesling Kabinett halbtrocken displays a bright yet intense bouquet with finely weathered and flinty slate and dried white fruit aromas. Juicy, piquant and salty on the palate, this is a round and charming yet intense, persistently crystalline and elegant Kabinett with a long and harmonious but tensioned, slightly bitter finish. Excellent. Tasted at the domain in September 2020.
Riesling grapes have been grown in and around central Europe for centuries, and over time, they became the lasting symbol of south Germany's ancient and proud wine culture. Whilst the reputation of German wines abroad has in the past been mixed, the Germans themselves take an enormous amount of pride in their wineries, and Riesling grapes have now spread around the globe, growing anywhere with the correct climate in which they can thrive. Riesling grape varietals generally require much cooler climatic conditions than many other white grapes, and they are generally considered to be a very 'terroir expressive' varietal, meaning that the features and characteristics of the terroir they are grown on comes across in the flavors and aromas in the bottle. It is this important feature which has allowed Riesling wines to be elevated into the category of 'fine' white wines, as the features of the top quality bottles are generally considered to be highly unique and offer much to interest wine enthusiasts.

Germany
As in many Old World countries, the rise of viticulture in Germany came about as a result of the Roman Empire, who saw the potential for vine cultivation in the vast flatlands around the base of the Rhine valley. Indeed, for over a thousand years, Germany's wine production levels were enormous, with much of the south of the country being used more or less exclusively for growing grapes. Over time, this diminished to make way for expanding cities and other types of industries, but Southern Germany remains very much an important wine region within Europe, with many beautifully balanced and flavorful German wines being prized by locals and international wine lovers alike. The hills around Baden-Baden and Mannheim are especially noteworthy, as these produce the high end of the characteristic semi-sweet white wines which couple so perfectly with German cheeses and pickled vegetables. However, all of Germany's wine producing regions have something special and unique to offer, and are a joy to explore and experience.
Region
Mosel-Saar-Ruwer
The Mosel-Saar-Ruwer region in western Germany is famous for producing some of the world’s finest Rieslings. Steep, slate-covered slopes along the Mosel, Saar, and Ruwer rivers reflect sunlight and retain heat, helping grapes ripen in a cool climate.
This terroir yields aromatic, high-acid Rieslings with striking minerality, low alcohol, and a balance of sweetness and freshness. Styles range from bone-dry to lusciously sweet, often with exceptional aging potential.
The region’s best wines come from terraced vineyards like Wehlener Sonnenuhr, Scharzhofberger, and Ürziger Würzgarten. Manual vineyard work is intense, but the payoff is elegance and precision in the glass.
Mosel-Saar-Ruwer wines are transparent expressions of site and vintage. While mostly white, they offer incredible diversity in style and structure—making them essential for any wine lover exploring Germany’s classic regions.

This shows a classic Mosel profile, with floral and orchard fruit notes, but also the character of the warm vintage, showing a bit more weight and concentration. Very well-balanced and open now, offering charming hints of yellow apple, quince and elderflower. Zesty and long. Drink now through 2030. 182 cases imported.

This perennially over-performing bottling does not disappoint in 2018. (After composing this tasting note, I noticed that the wine’s importer commenced his note on this 2018 with the words “perennially outstanding.”) Like a few other Selbach-Oster 2018s, though, it shows a surprisingly high-toned suggestion of fruit distillates to accompany its scents of fresh apple, pear, lime and wet stone. Flowers emerge only inner-mouth, but then in billowing profusion: clover and apple blossom, predominantly. The texture is subtly creamy (more like what I would anticipate from a Zeltinger Sonnenuhr) but also infectiously juicy. Nut and vanilla notes – perhaps partly a reflection of there being fuder involved here (whereas this bottling was long dominated by tank lots) – add appeal to a buoyant and juicy but also seriously stony finish. This will make an excellent keeper, though lamentably few people are apt to test that claim.
Winery Notes
Zeltingen's Himmelreich is a site with variable exposures and steepness, but the best of it offers 1er Cru quality in a green-apple and kiwi style, more fruit driven than mineral.
