Although primarily associated with the Rhone region of France, the precise origins of the Viognier grape variety are unknown, and the subject of much debate. The Rhone Valley of southern France is a particularly fascinating wine region, with a history that stretches back to at least six hundred BCE, when the ancient Greeks first began cultivating vines there. Ogier produced the 2022 Condrieu la Combe de Malleval from fully mature grapes planted in two lieux-dits, Veauvignière in the stunning commune of Malleval and La Combe in Saint-Pierre de Boeuf. This has shown very well today, evoking a flamboyant, vibrant bouquet of white peach, apricots, rose and mint mingled with lovely aromas of ripe pear. Full-bodied, dense and precise, it's enrobing and layered with a rich, fleshy core of fruit and a long, delicate and ethereal finish enhanced by gastronomic bitterness. It's built to age with grace.
