The imposing elevation is evident as this is noticeably cooler and airier with its aromas of citrus and mineral reduction inflected green apple. The sleek, intense and precise, indeed even chiseled, flavors terminate in a bone-dry, complex and moderately firm finale. This is less expansive than the Chenevottes but much finer so it’s a qualitative choice between them.

Of all the white wine grape varietals, surely the one that has spread the furthest and is most widely appreciated is Chardonnay. The 2019 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Baudines 1er Cru has a lifted nose of citrus peel mixed with powdered chalk, but it's not a nose you would describe as spectacular. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp acidity and just a little alcohol seeping through. It's spicy with a strong stem ginger element that is a bit too obvious on the finish, though that recedes with time, and its elegance comes forth. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.
