Long-term Pre-arrival Items
Long Term Pre-arrival Definition: Ordering wine directly through us from our supplier partners in Europe in advance of the item’s physical arrival in the US.
Long Term Pre-arrival sales ensure you’re getting the best possible price and that you have also secured the product before it hits the normal retail supply chain. The lead time for Pre-arrival goods is generally 4–8 months, sometimes longer based on supply chain and the logistics of transporting goods overseas. The expectation, from our team, is to communicate to the customer the location of their purchase every step of the way.
This product is offered as a full case purchase option, minimum order quantities may be applicable. When available, multiple case options will be presented. If you are purchasing a Pre-Arrival item you must order a solid case.

The 2017 Santorini is all Assyrtiko from a single vineyard (Giannas), unoaked and coming in at 13% alcohol. This is remarkable in many ways. It is gorgeously structured, powerful and intense yet still with unctuous texture that coats the palate. It is nicely concentrated as well as pretty delicious. The finish is impressively long. Then, there’s the quibble. It has a smoky nose, which follows through onto the palate; I suspected reduction. The good news is that those nuances will often blow off with time or aeration. I did decant it, which I sometimes do for new Assyrtiko anyway. It was much better. Assuming it doesn’t blow off in the normal course of bottle aging, opening it the night before, recorking and refrigerating it usually does the trick. Overall, I’m going to lean up on this because it is just so stunning in so many ways. Even with that quibble, it’s the best I’ve yet seen from the winery. It should age well, perhaps better than anticipated, which is good, because it could use a little more time to come around. There were just 15,000 bottles produced.
Assyrtiko is a white grape variety native to the island of Santorini in Greece, renowned for its ability to thrive in arid and volcanic soils. It produces wines that are mineral-driven, high in acidity, and deeply expressive of their terroir. Assyrtiko wines are characterized by their citrus flavors, particularly lemon and grapefruit, along with notes of saline minerality and hints of herbs like thyme. They are typically bone-dry with a crisp acidity and a steely texture, making them refreshing and versatile for pairing with a variety of foods. What makes Assyrtiko unique is its resilience; it can withstand high temperatures and strong winds, conditions that are challenging for most grape varieties. The grape's ability to retain acidity even in intense heat contributes to the longevity and age-worthiness of Assyrtiko wines, which can develop richer flavors and complex aromas with time.
Country
Greece
As one of the oldest wine producing countries in the world, Greece has millenia of experience and expertise when it comes to viticulture, and has developed a set of flavors and characteristics which are found nowhere else on earth. The ancient Greeks revered and deified wine, and were the first true innovators in the history of wine, adding everything from seawater to honey and spices in order to find exciting new taste combinations and aromas. Today, Greek wines are just as varied, although far more refined and sophisticated than their ancient counterparts. The practice of enhancing Greek wines with aromatic substances never left the country, though, as can be seen in the popular Retsina wines, which use pine resin to provide their unique taste and aroma combinations. There is far more to Greek wine than merely Retsina, however, and the vast variety on offer is a testament to the expertise of Greek wineries making the most of the wonderful climate, terrain and grape varietals they work with.
