Long-term Pre-arrival Items
Long Term Pre-arrival Definition: Ordering wine directly through us from our supplier partners in Europe in advance of the item’s physical arrival in the US.
Long Term Pre-arrival sales ensure you’re getting the best possible price and that you have also secured the product before it hits the normal retail supply chain. The lead time for Pre-arrival goods is generally 4–8 months, sometimes longer based on supply chain and the logistics of transporting goods overseas. The expectation, from our team, is to communicate to the customer the location of their purchase every step of the way.
This product is offered as a full case purchase option, minimum order quantities may be applicable. When available, multiple case options will be presented. If you are purchasing a Pre-Arrival item you must order a solid case.
Rapid Ship
Items listed as "rapid ship" are in stock and available for immediate pickup or shipment. Those that do not have the "rapid ship" icon are housed with our supplier and must be transferred to our warehouse before they can be picked up or shipped. This requires 4-6 business days but usually occurs sooner. Some products will list both options of availability as there will be a certain number in stock, with the option to order additional bottles to be transferred from the supplier.

Try to be patient, but that’s difficult because this wine is also so incredibly sensual. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold.
Riesling grapes have been grown in and around central Europe for centuries, and over time, they became the lasting symbol of south Germany's ancient and proud wine culture. Whilst the reputation of German wines abroad has in the past been mixed, the Germans themselves take an enormous amount of pride in their wineries, and Riesling grapes have now spread around the globe, growing anywhere with the correct climate in which they can thrive. Riesling grape varietals generally require much cooler climatic conditions than many other white grapes, and they are generally considered to be a very 'terroir expressive' varietal, meaning that the features and characteristics of the terroir they are grown on comes across in the flavors and aromas in the bottle. It is this important feature which has allowed Riesling wines to be elevated into the category of 'fine' white wines, as the features of the top quality bottles are generally considered to be highly unique and offer much to interest wine enthusiasts.

As in many Old World countries, the rise of viticulture in Germany came about as a result of the Roman Empire, who saw the potential for vine cultivation in the vast flatlands around the base of the Rhine valley. Indeed, for over a thousand years, Germany's wine production levels were enormous, with much of the south of the country being used more or less exclusively for growing grapes. Over time, this diminished to make way for expanding cities and other types of industries, but Southern Germany remains very much an important wine region within Europe, with many beautifully balanced and flavorful German wines being prized by locals and international wine lovers alike. The hills around Baden-Baden and Mannheim are especially noteworthy, as these produce the high end of the characteristic semi-sweet white wines which couple so perfectly with German cheeses and pickled vegetables. However, all of Germany's wine producing regions have something special and unique to offer, and are a joy to explore and experience.

Rheingau / Rheinhessen
The beautiful region of Rheingau in Germany is home to many of the country's most characterful and delicious wines. With a wine history which extends back several centuries, the wineries of this region have generations of experience and expertise when it comes to dealing with their distinctive and flavorful grape varietals, and consistently produce wines which remain popular with global audiences. With Riesling making up for the majority of grapes growing in the region, Rheingau vintners make the most of the cooler climate and high levels of moisture on the valley sides to bring out the best flavors of this grape, as well as allowing it to express the finest features of the terroir. However, plenty of other Germanic and imported grape varietals flourish there, and today the region produces a relatively large range of excellent white wines which are steadily becoming more recognized internationally.

The awesome 2022 Riesling EMT (VDP.Versteigerung 2023) is from the Ur-plot of Wagner's Heerkretz. It starts off intense and pure but still pretty reductive and untamed on the nose, which indicates fully ripe and carefully selected fruit intermingled with saline notes. Lush and generous yet also remarkably refined and lively on the palate, this is a full-bodied, pure and mineral, enormously saline and "rocky" Heerkretz deluxe that is richer and drier than the GG and a mouthfilling, hedonistic Riesling from a great terroir. The finish is spectacularly long and saline but, for those who bought it at auction, the 2022 should be cellared for at least another 7 years or so. However, as splendid as the EMT is or as promising the GG, I have always wondered if the combination of the two would be the most complete or most authentic wine. 12.5% stated alcohol. Diam cork. Tasted in January 2024. The elevated price is the result of last year's auction in Bad Kreuznach.

The 2022 Riesling EMT is from the most exposed parcel of the Heerkretz. The nose holds ripe apricot and still a certain amount of yeasty funk, but this dissipates to reveal austere, salty stoniness colored by iron oxide. The palate is immediately buffered with porous stone, smooth, salty and redolent of lemony-wet sun-warmed rocks. A rich yet toned, taut, stony and bone-dry finish evokes tangerine and iron oxide.
