Long-term Pre-arrival Items
Long Term Pre-arrival Definition: Ordering wine directly through us from our supplier partners in Europe in advance of the item’s physical arrival in the US.
Long Term Pre-arrival sales ensure you’re getting the best possible price and that you have also secured the product before it hits the normal retail supply chain. The lead time for Pre-arrival goods is generally 4–8 months, sometimes longer based on supply chain and the logistics of transporting goods overseas. The expectation, from our team, is to communicate to the customer the location of their purchase every step of the way.
This product is offered as a full case purchase option, minimum order quantities may be applicable. When available, multiple case options will be presented. If you are purchasing a Pre-Arrival item you must order a solid case.
Rapid Ship
Items listed as "rapid ship" are in stock and available for immediate pickup or shipment. Those that do not have the "rapid ship" icon are housed with our supplier and must be transferred to our warehouse before they can be picked up or shipped. This requires 4-6 business days but usually occurs sooner. Some products will list both options of availability as there will be a certain number in stock, with the option to order additional bottles to be transferred from the supplier.

The 2020 Steinkrügle is another fascinating Chasselas from Hanspeter and Edeltraud Ziereisen that comes from 40+-year-old vines and was aged on the lees for about 20 months in traditional oak casks. The wine exhibits an intense golden-yellow color and a deep, pure, concentrated and intensely mineral bouquet with ripe, elegant fruit aromas intermingled with iodine notes of crushed stones and refreshing phenolic nuances. Dense, lush and elegant on the tropical-flavored palate, this is a fine and erotic Chasselas with a long, complex and stimulating saline finish. The acidity is fine and fresh and perfectly integrated with the phenolic structure and elegant texture of this youthful and age-worthy white from Germany’s southern tip. It was bottled with 11% stated alcohol but with a density, intensity and complexity you can hardly measure. After the superb 2017, this is another over-performing Steinkrügle. Screw-cap closure. Tasted in November 2022.

Chasselas wines are enjoyed as apéritifs, with seafood, salads, and cheese fondue, reflecting its cultural significance in Alpine regions where it thrives in cool climates and chalky soils.

As in many Old World countries, the rise of viticulture in Germany came about as a result of the Roman Empire, who saw the potential for vine cultivation in the vast flatlands around the base of the Rhine valley. Indeed, for over a thousand years, Germany's wine production levels were enormous, with much of the south of the country being used more or less exclusively for growing grapes. Over time, this diminished to make way for expanding cities and other types of industries, but Southern Germany remains very much an important wine region within Europe, with many beautifully balanced and flavorful German wines being prized by locals and international wine lovers alike. The hills around Baden-Baden and Mannheim are especially noteworthy, as these produce the high end of the characteristic semi-sweet white wines which couple so perfectly with German cheeses and pickled vegetables. However, all of Germany's wine producing regions have something special and unique to offer, and are a joy to explore and experience.

Winery Notes
Wolf in sheep's clothing. Minority on the nose with hints of citrus and pear. The minerality continues on the palate. Flint, salt, with slightly herbaceous notes and yellow fruits. Noticeable phenolic, fine enamel paired with filigree and finesse. Great drinking flow through the animating, mature acidity and a long reverberation. A gutedel with a Burgundian character who is elegantly reserved. Aging potential of at least ten years.
