93-95 The 2020 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Murgers 1er Cru has a crystalline bouquet with red cherries, cassis and iris flower, just a little reduction here that will dissipate with time. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins. Not a deep Les Murgers, this has something “airy” about it, so elegant and refined on the finish. Beautiful.

The 2020 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Murgers unwinds in the glass with aromas of cassis, cherries, dark berries, loamy soil, warm spices and orange rind. Medium to full-bodied, concentrated and textural, its broad attack segues into a deep, layered and lively core, concluding with a saline finish.

An interestingly mix is comprised by notes of earth, spice, ripe dark currant and wisps of the sauvage plus a floral top note. The rich and highly energetic larger-scaled flavors possess excellent mid-palate density that coats the palate with sappy dry extract and buffers the very firm tannic spine shaping the intensely mineral-driven, compact and quite serious finale. This is potentially excellent, and better than usual, but patience advised.

Shows a slightly exotic edge, with a salty, almost savoury element. Still, there is also a pleasant floral note and lovely definition to the red and black fruit aromas. The texture is firm but not forbidding. Aux Murgers, at the bottom of the slope on the Vosne side of the village, produces a sturdier wine than Damodes at the top. The domaine has nearly 0.7ha here; the grapes are fermented with about 20% whole clusters before ageing in cask (25% new).
