Agrapart describes this as its ‘entry-level’ wine, but it’s far from your normal non-vintage Champagne. A blend of premier and grand cru grapes from two different vintages, its super-fresh, lemony nose segues into a tight, steely palate with delicious stone-fruit ripeness. It’s light on its feet and very vital, with delightful juiciness balancing mineral inclusions. Very impressive.

Varietal

Champagne Blend

The sparkling wines of Champagne have been revered by wine drinkers for hundreds of years, and even today they maintain their reputation for excellence of flavor and character, and are consistently associated with quality, decadence, and a cause for celebration. Their unique characteristics are partly due to the careful blending of a small number of selected grape varietals, most commonly Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. These grapes, blended in fairly equal quantities, give the wines of Champagne their wonderful flavors and aromas, with the Pinot Noir offering length and backbone, and the Chardonnay varietal giving its acidity and dry, biscuity nature. It isn't unusual to sometimes see Champagne labeled as 'blanc de blanc', meaning it is made using only Chardonnay varietal grapes, or 'blanc de noir', which is made solely with Pinot Noir.

Region

Champagne

The beautiful rolling hillsides of the Champagne region of France have, for hundreds of years, been producing many of the world's most famous wines. The sparkling white wines to come out of Champagne's prestigious wineries have conquered the world, and are drank in celebration across the globe. The vast majority of the region is under vine, and grows predominantly Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grape varietals, which are usually blended together by master wine-makers in order to make their recognizable and widely loved produce. The north-easterly region of Champagne has a relatively cool climate, and quite a lot of rainfall, making it far from ideal for ripening grapes. However, the presence of heavily forested areas in the region helps maintain a balanced temperature, and the generations of expertise the wineries hold clearly produces excellent results in spite of the climatic problems.

Wine Spectator

A well-cut Champagne, with a minerally underpinning and a pleasing tension to finely knit flavors of white cherry and Anjou pear, grated ginger and sliced almond. Plush and creamy on the lingering finish.

The NV (2022) Brut 7 Crus is such a fabulous introduction to this range. In this release, the 7 Crus is especially generous, which makes it all the more appealing in the near term. Citrus confit, marzipan, dried flowers, mint and crushed rocks build in the glass, finishing with notable substance and power. This release, based on 2022, is one of the best recent 7 Crus I can remember tasting. A standout. Dosage is 4 grams per liter. Disgorged: June 2025; multiple disgorgements throughout the year.

Wine Advocate

Revisiting the 2022-based NV Extra Brut 7 Crus, the cuvée blends the juices from the final pressings of all the estate’s villages and includes some 10% to 15% Pinot Noir from Avenay-Val-d’Or. Disgorged with a dosage of five grams per liter, it offers aromas of yellow apple, peach and orange oil mingled with freshly baked bread. Medium- to full-bodied, ample and charming, it is underpinned by succulent yet lively acids, with a subtle phenolic grip on the finish.
