91-94 A more subtle but not invisible note of menthol is present on the cooler and admirably pure aromas of both red and dark pinot fruit that reflect a panoply of spice and floral nuances. The tautly muscular, robust and well-detailed larger-scaled flavors possess a firm mineral streak that adds a sense of lift to the more structured and beautifully long finale. This is impressive and should also amply repay extended keeping.

Interestingly, Cote De Beaune produces more red wine than white wine, despite its white wines being so famous. The red wines of Cote De Beaune are mainly made from Pinot Noir, but are relatively very light and fruity in their character, perfect for sipping on a warm, sunny day alongside a wide range of foods.

Exhibiting generous aromas of cherries, espresso roast, dark chocolate and baking spices, the 2018 Pommard 1er Cru Les Rugiens is medium to full-bodied, deep and elegantly muscular, with a broad-shouldered chassis of powdery tannin, lively acids and a nicely defined finish. This has turned out very well, though it will require patience.

The 2018 Pommard Les Rugiens 1er Cru has a perfumed bouquet with red cherries and blueberry fruit, well-defined, hints of wilted violet percolating through with time. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, quite chiselled and tensile, perhaps missing just a little complexity on the finish. There is an elegant quality here, that should see it age with panache. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 red tasting.
