This is very dark colored with lots of dried berries, olives and blackberries. Full-bodied, rich and layered. Juicy at the same time. Just before bottling. Needs four to five years to come around. Try after 2023.

Interestingly, Cote De Beaune produces more red wine than white wine, despite its white wines being so famous. The red wines of Cote De Beaune are mainly made from Pinot Noir, but are relatively very light and fruity in their character, perfect for sipping on a warm, sunny day alongside a wide range of foods.

The 2017 Pommard 1er Cru Les Epenots has turned out well, wafting from the glass with a lovely bouquet of dark berries, baking chocolate, spices and soil tones. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, rich and nicely concentrated, having taken on additional depth and dimension with élevage.

Moderate wood and menthol notes sit atop the more complex nose that displays a panoply of spice, earth, cassis and dark currant aromas laced with hints of the sauvage. There is fine richness to the relatively powerful and velvet-textured larger-scaled flavors that are blessed with good concentration on the mouth coating and persistent finish. This serious effort needs to develop more depth but the underlying material is present such that it should.

Winery Notes

A beautiful garnet color. His nose is complex: blackberry, coffee, pepper. On the palate, the wine is full with aromas of cherries, cherry pit and sappy in the final.
